Oakwood builds more than homes, it builds communities

As the largest privately held homebuilder in Colorado, Oakwood Homes and its founder and CEO, Pat Hamill, take pride in their commitment to the state we all call home.

Since its inception in 1991, Oakwood Homes, with Hamill’s leadership, has invested in communities throughout Colorado instilling a philanthropic culture within the organization. The company has championed education reform and innovation, not only in the communities where Oakwood builds but across the state. The Oakwood Homes’ team has raised millions of dollars to build and launch the Foundation for Educational Excellence, and supported educational reform organizations, legislation and ballot initiatives that will expand Colorado children’s access to quality education, no matter where they live.

In addition to the expansive investment to improve educational outcomes for Colorado kids, the company supports a host of nonprofit organizations including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver. Oakwood has built and donated the annual St. Jude Dream Home for the last three years, helping raise millions of dollars for the organization. Oakwood Homes hosts an annual golf tournament benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver and built and donated two homes to raise money for the organization, which in turn has given Hamill the “Champion of Youth” award twice.

The reasoning behind this investment is the vision of Hamill, who said he believes Oakwood Homes’ core contribution to Colorado is to not just build homes, but to build real communities.

Oakwood Homes will build about 900 homes in Colorado this year, a testament to the strength of the Colorado economy. “I’m feeling really optimistic,” Hamill said. “As job growth goes, so goes the homebuilding business.”

Along with nine locations across Colorado’s Front Range, Oakwood Homes builds in five Nebraska communities and 28 locations in Utah with the $75 million acquisition in 2014 of some assets of Henry Walker Homes.

Colorado communities range from Erie Highlands and Thompson River Ranch in northern Colorado, to Green Valley Ranch in east Denver, to The Meadows at Historic Castle Rock™, to a 2,600-acre site at Banning Lewis Ranch east of Colorado Springs. All of these neighborhoods offer buyers an opportunity to buy a dream home at every budget and stage of life, and invest, not just in a home, but in a growing community.

Along with fully decorated model homes, Oakwood’s design staff gives buyers the unique experience of a virtual walkthrough of their own dream home. Using 3-D CAD visualization software, designers can show buyers their exact floorplan, customized with features from flooring to enhanced master baths and media centers, Hamill said. “Technology is one area in which we’ve been a leader.”

Oakwood’s two Colorado design centers allow buyers to compare more than 2,500 customizable options for the décor, features and finishes in their homes. Full-sized model kitchens, baths, home offices and theaters let customers check out the options they’re considering for their homes.

Oakwood Homes stands as a Colorado-grown company in which Coloradans can be proud.
